Some Quick Thoughts on the Olympics

I watch waaaaaay to much Olympic coverage.

I cannot stop watching. I will not stop!!

The "Olympic Spirit" is not necessarily winning but beating the odds to get to compete.

That being said, the USA Men's Hockey team had better win a game or I will petition Congress to not let them back into the country!! They shouldn't allow pros to compete in this event anyway. It doesn't mean anything to them... or at least that's how they play.

I love women's hockey. That is the biggest thing that they will play in in their careers. They play with passion!

I am still not convinced that snowboarding is Olympic worthy.

The half-pipe is not a sport by my definition.

Neither is figure skating in any form. Sorry toe-pickers! As with the half-pipe, it is definitely athletic, but not a sport. By my definition, they lack defense and a concrete score.

A flaw in my definition is that Curling is a sport. I love curling and wish that somewhere in St. Louis I could participate, but it is something that could be done with a beer in my hand!!

Thank God they are getting away from all the sappy story pieces. A few are ok, but not everyone needed a "True Olympic Story".

Did you ever notice that everyone is an expert after watching 15 minutes of an event? You know for certain that the guy from Kazikstan blew the race when his sled got a little to high in the fourth corner. However, you will not watch the luge again until 2010!!

Who was the guy that said, "The luge is for pussies!" and decided that real men dive on a small sled that you can't turn, head first, slide down the track at insane speeds and call it 'skeleton'??? That guy had BRASS... or was drunk!!!

Why did someone feel like Cross Country Skiing was not complete until they stopped to shoot a .22 during the race? I have yet to hear of a marathon where one must stop to take shots at a guarded soccer net!!

I could go on but the commercial break is over and I have some "Boarder Cross" to watch...
